Nominations must be submitted to the Nominating Committee by June 15th. The slate of candidates for the Board of Directors will be announced at the AGM.

Note: The main role of the Board of Directors (“the Board”) is to determine Just Food’s mission and policies, provide strategic direction and oversight of its activities, and ensure organizational accountability. Just Food has an Executive Director who manages the organization.

Please read the Just Food Policies and Procedures for detailed information on the role and responsibilities of Directors. Please also note the requirements and priorities for Board members, which will guide the Nominating Committee in preparing the slate of candidates:

All Board members must have:

  • Commitment to JF goals and values
  • Ability to commit a minimum of 6 hours per month to Just Food (more for Executive members)
  • Food system issues knowledge/analysis
  • Knowledge of local context
  • Organizational management
  • Background in one or another of JF areas of work


We welcome people from diverse backgrounds, but are particularly interested in finding individuals with expertise or experience in the following areas:

non-profit organizational management;
human resources;
fundraising;
strategic planning;
farming and/or food production;
business;
food systems politics; and,
the anti-poverty movement or work with low-income populations.


If you possess one or more of these areas of expertise, consider joining the Just Food’s Board of Directors!

Interested? Send us a paragraph (maximum 350 words) introducing yourself and your experience, and telling us why you think you could make a positive contribution to Just Food’s Board of Directors, to Patricia.Ballamingie@carleton.ca by June 15, 2014.  Be sure to create the subject line: Just Food Board of Directors – Expression of Interest.

Of those expressing interest, the selection committee will contact a maximum of 6 candidates to arrange for an interview.  The selected candidates will then be presented to Just Food members for election at the next Annual General Meeting in June.
