March Break Cooking Camps

Not Your Average Beet  & Just Food
are partnering to offer
March Break Cooking Camps
for youth ages 9 to 13!

March 11-15 – Half Day Program

Two time slots:
9:30am – 12:30pm or
2pm – 5pm

March 18-22 – Full Day Program
9:30am – 2:30pm

Hosted at the Just Food Community Farm
2391 Pepin Ct, Ottawa K1B 4Z3

About the Program:

This program is focused on experiential learning where youth have the opportunity to learn-through-doing as they prepare their own lunch and snacks. They build essential life skills and learn more about where our food comes from. Classes are held in our brand new commercial catering kitchen in our Community Barn.

The best part: they get to devour their creations once they’re ready!

The group will also spend some time outside, taking in the fresh air and the beautiful space at the farm.

The camp focuses on:

  • building technical skills of food preparation, measuring, practical math equations, dish washing, table clearing, etc.
  • practicing teamwork, effective communication, sharing space, completing tasks, active listening and mindfulness
  • expressing their creativity and building confidence!

Each recipe is designed to be:

  • enjoyable to make AND EAT as well as something that can be recreated at home
  • plant-based and loaded with nourishing ingredients
  • where possible, including organic and locally sourced items

Sweet treats will not include refined sugar and most dishes can be modified if there are allergies or dietary restrictions.
