Just Food Ottawa seeks dedicated volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors (terms are 3 years in duration and can be renewed once to a 6-year maximum).
This is a great opportunity to get involved in making a better Ottawa. Just Food is a local, non-profit, community-based organization that works on both rural and urban food and farming issues in Ottawa and the region. Our work touches on food access, food security, food policy and strategy, farmers’ markets, farm and food businesses, community gardens, local food producers, home gardening, and more.
We welcome people with a passion for food systems and food security, including the ways that these intersect with equity, land access, climate, homelessness, and other systemic issues.
We are looking for 2-3 new Board members with skills in any or some of the following areas:
- Experience in a non-profit or charitable organization
- Fundraising and/or sponsorship experience
- Legal expertise
- Knowledge and expertise regarding food access among low-income communities
- Experience related to food and/or agricultural policy
- Experience in food production/processing, farming, or food service
We encourage people to apply who identify as being from marginalized communities, including but not limited to Indigenous peoples, people of colour, women, people with disability, people of diverse sexual orientation and gender identities, and people with a lived experience of poverty.
The Just Food Board is a volunteer Board with the mandate to determine and uphold Just Food’s mission and policies, contribute to the strategic direction, ensure organizational accountability and governance, and to support our Executive Director, who together with our staff, manages and performs the operations of the organization. As a board member, you can help contribute to Just Food’s policy work, attend community events, and advance our mission.
All Board members must be:
- Aligned with the values and work of Just Food for a stronger food system
- Able to commit a minimum of 4 hours per month to Just Food (more for Executive Committee members);
- Knowledgeable of an element of Ottawa’s food context
